Lip Bar
Last week I attend the launch of the Lip Bar.
It was a very swank event, beautifully dressed people, tasty eats, themed drinks and lots of women with bold lips!
That's right, all the bold colors are named after cocktails!"Melissa Butler, the Lip Bar founder and visionary, set out on a mission to impact the cosmetic industry with products that are unsurpassed in craftsmanship, quality and color. Handcrafted with a unique blend of natural ingredients such as vitamin E, shea butter and avocado oil. The Lip Bar lipsticks are designed to moisturize, soften and amplify lips all while all while setting you apart with intoxicatingly bold, kick-ass colors. The youthful, fun and sexy concept of a cosmetic bar comes from Melissa’s desire to synergize alluring bold lip colors with every twenty-something’s favorite social setting. The Lip Bar caters to your individuality."

Fun Mani
After we saw this post over at Thrifty Darling we wanted to give Marie Nails a try. Didn't take the appointment situation seriously and walked in and only to be told that they were booked for the day. After chatting with the receptionist she was able to squeeze me in! But because I had get in where I fit in I had to stick with a regular mani with just a little fun. I did make an appointment to go all out for later in the month and I'll def keep you guys posted.

OOOooOooOOOoooo
We told you in this post that Christian Louboutin was celebrating 20 years in the business. He designed a special edition shoe for Barney's and now has released a capsule collection. Swoon worthy designs that will hit the pockets hard. We didn't expect anything less. Happy Anniversary Mr. Louboutin!

The Great Debaters
I recently attended a debate at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. The debaters were Steve Stoute and William C. Rhoden and they were discussing whether or not culture and sports are in a "post-black" moment.
Stoute, former music exec and current CEO/Founder of Translation Marketing and author of The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Culture Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy. Tanning posits that the transcendent power of hip-hop culture where race is less significant is helping to reinvigorate and revitalize the American dream.
Rhoden, Current New York Times columnist and author of Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall and Redemption of the Black Athlete. In Forty Rhoden discusses how African-American athletes have been at the center of modern culture, but still find themselves on the periphery of the true power in the multibillion-dollar industry their talent built. (source)
The debate was lively and so was the crowd! Here are a few stills and a quick video. (Sorry for the shaky hands! I used my phone)

Meet the Man
With Fashion Week rapidly approaching, you can bet we're already thinking long and hard about what we're going to be wearing for the next week — including what kind of shoes we'll be pounding the pavement in. Nicholas Kirkwood's exquisite heels have always been amongst our all-time faves, so we're super-excited that the designer will be showing off his spring '12 collection this Thursday at Saks Fifth Avenue. Not only will he be on hand to autograph your shoes, but if you decide to purchase one of the designer's pairs, you can be one of four shoppers to get a framed, limited-edition sketch of one of his super-sultry pumps. Actually, make that one of three framed prints — we'll be getting in line extra early to make sure we secure one ourselves. (source)
When: Thursday, February 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 5th Avenue (between 49th and 50th streets); 212-940-2818.
RSVP: Email nyevents@saks.com
